Hi there! I’m Chris—the hands behind MyKnittingEra!
I’m a Colorado transplant who’s been living in Connecticut for the past 30 years, which probably makes me more Nutmegger than Coloradan at this point. But who’s counting?
My mom taught me to knit when I was a preteen, so naturally, I refused to do it for years afterward. Because preteens. You understand.
Fast-forward to adulthood: bills, parenting, anxiety, depression, and a brain that really enjoyed rehearsing every possible disaster at bedtime. I needed something to quiet the noise.
While digging through my junk closet one day, I found a dusty ball of yarn and some long-abandoned knitting needles. Did I even remember how to use them?
Turns out, I did. Thanks, Mom. You win this round.
First came a scarf. Then dishcloths. Then a hat. Then enough hats to suggest I knew considerably more heads than I actually did. Eventually, a throw.
And then I discovered Mochimochiland.
Tiny. Knitted. Things.
Well. That was that.
As a former teacher and the mom of a nurse, I’ve learned something very important: badge bling is a thing. And a tiny knitted friend makes a delightful addition to the workday.
Don’t wear a badge? Clip a little personality onto your bag. Bag bling!
No bag? Surely there’s a pocket somewhere in your life that could use a tiny companion.
These days, I turn cotton embroidery floss into little creatures with big personalities. Every one is knitted by hand, stitch by tiny stitch, with a lot of care and probably something playing in the background that I’ve forgotten to pay attention to.
Knitting keeps my hands busy and helps my mind settle. Sharing what I make gives that comfort somewhere else to go. My hope is that these little companions bring you a smile, a moment of lightness, or simply something sweet to keep you company while you do the hard work of being a person.
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. I hope your day includes a deep breath, a small joy, and at least one thing that makes you smile.
With love and a few stray bits of floss,
Chris
